Red hat: How do you think you would feel if you were blamed for a crime you didn’t commit?
Green hat: We know that Stanley’s father was trying to create a machine that would recycle old sneakers. How do you think that procedure could work?
Summarizer – cap. 13-26
Stanley has now lost track of the number of days he’s been at the camp and he finally finds something. It’s like a small tube of metal with the initials ”KB”. As he and X-Ray had made a deal, he felt like he had to give it to X-Ray. X-Ray then takes the credit and gets to take the rest of the day off, although he waits until the next day to turn it in to get the whole day off instead of just the afternoon. The warden then comes to the lake to watch as the boys dig one big hole at the spot where X-Ray ”found” the metal thing. Stanley knows they aren’t going to find anything there because that isn’t where he found the thing, and he was right. The warden later gives up and lets the boys dig individually. One day as the water truck has just driven away, it turns out that while Mr. Sir was filling the canteens, ZigZag was stealing Mr. Sir’s bag of sunflower seeds. Even though Stanley has nothing to do with it, he gets the blame and Mr. Sir brings him to the warden’s cabin. In the cabin Mr. Sir complains about his stolen sunflower seeds and the warden gets angry, but not at Stanley. The warden gets angry at Mr. Sir because he just had to bother her with his unnecessary complaining. As a punishment for Mr. Sir’s whining, the warden scratched his face with nails painted in red nail polish made by snake venom.

Character tracer – cap. 40-50
Stanley, the main character himself, has shown some real strength, bravery and kindness in this part of the book. He climbed a mountain while carrying his friend, he has become stronger. He waited many minutes, hours even, with poisonous lizards surrounding him, his journey to the camp and away from the camp has made him braver. He took care of his friend, Zero, when he was sick and almost died. Although he’s learned a lot from his weeks at Camp Green Lake, kindness is something that he’s always carried with him. He didn’t need the camp to be kind to his friend, he already had that in him. But as I said, he became brave and strong and stood up for himself by trying even when he didn’t see the point in trying.
Creative connector – cap. 40-50
During his time at the camp, Stanley has built up his personality with confidence and strength. The hole digging wasn’t the only thing that made him stronger. He was surrounded by confident people who would sometimes do him good and sometimes do him bad. When Stanley left the camp to finally go home to his parents, he wasn’t the same person as when he arrived at Camp Green Lake. The camp didn’t change him although it did strengthen him and his character. This can very often be seen in reality when at boot camps. A boot camp can be different things. For instance a behavior camp for kids who need discipline, maybe som kids who have committed crimes or things like that. They get sent to the boot camp to become more disciplined and not so criminal as before, and most of the times the kids get better at being civilized human beings after a couple of weeks at the boot camp.
